This outdated method poses significant environmental risks and is not sustainable in the long term.

Bluewin’s Proposal: Turning Waste into Resource
During the mission, Bluewin held discussions with the Astana city government, EPC designers, and contractors, presenting tailored solutions for the sludge issue. The company proposed applying its ELODE + NVD/EVD systems to shift away from landfill-based disposal toward resource recovery and circular economy models.
ELODE electro-osmosis dewatering + NVD/EVD drying: Reduces CO₂ emissions by over 60% compared to thermal drying, while producing sludge suitable for reuse as fuel or fertilizer.
Odor treatment upgrades: Replacing activated carbon with biological filters, wet scrubbing, plasma, or photocatalyst-based solutions.
Handling high-concentration wastewater: Introducing advanced biological processes (MBR, MBBR) in combination with Bluewin’s low-OPEX technologies.
Energy efficiency: Replacing outdated blowers and pumps while leveraging ELODE’s low-energy dewatering to reduce operational costs.
Through this approach, Bluewin emphasized the vision of transforming sludge from a “waste” burden into a “resource” opportunity.

The delegation’s schedule was not without challenges. CEO Antonio Kim stayed behind in Astana for a crucial meeting with city officials, resulting in travel delays when his domestic flight to Almaty was postponed for six hours due to a technical defect. Despite missing his international connection, he viewed the incident positively: “It was a blessing that the defect was detected before takeoff. We were transferred to a safer, newer aircraft, and that gave me peace of mind,” he reflected.

A key outcome of this mission was the official selection of Bluewin’s ELODE system for Astana’s wastewater treatment plant sludge reduction project. Bluewin will proceed with specification reviews and collaborate with local partners to implement the project.
